Heavier penalties for mobile phone use behind the wheel

In the unlikely event that you missed it, anyone reading this who drives should be aware that from yesterday the penalties for mobile phone use behind the wheel have been significantly increased and, to ensure that we are broken of any temptation to do so, the definition of inappropriate use significantly widened.

Even touching the thing when stopped at a red light can be an expensive mistake.

Basically they want us to turn it off, put it in a case, or hand it to a passenger.

Apparently they were having a blitz on enforcement and did catch people. Whether drivers change their behaviour will depend on the choices people make.
