More vile weather in Cumbria

The Met office forecasts of more horrible weather in Cumbria have been only too accurate: it has been raining all morning and one of two of the roads have been like rivers.

What is all the more cause for concern is that the ground is so saturated that there is water pooling in my front and back gardens, which is an indication of even more rain that the substantial amont we usually get. The Met office said it would not take "an awful lot of rain" for there to be a risk of rivers overflowing again, because of saturated ground and river levels being very high.

Please take great care if you are travelling anywhere in Cumbria, and at the risk of teaching granny to suck eggs, take all the precautions you would normally take if there is a significant risk of more flooding.

I think getting through this winter's floods and problems is going to be a marathon and not a sprint.
