Boris Johnson writes on the importance of next week's elections

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise: the European and local elections on 22nd May really matter.

They're your chance to vote for better councils, a stronger economy and real change in Europe.

Conservative MEPs have an unbeatable track record when it comes to fighting Britain's corner in Brussels and standing up for British taxpayers and businesses.

Just look at the action they, and David Cameron, have taken to protect Britain's interests:
  • Cutting the EU budget for the first time in history, saving British taxpayers over £8bn
  • Vetoing a new EU Fiscal Treaty that didn't guarantee a level playing field for British businesses
  • Getting Britain out of the Eurozone bailouts
And there's more to come. With a strong team of Conservative MEPs, we will renegotiate Britain's relationship with the EU and bring powers back to Britain - then give the British people the final say with an in-out referendum in 2017.

Labour and the Lib Dems won't stand up for Britain; and UKIP can't deliver on anything they promise.
