Copeland Council features in "Rotten Boroughs"

I gather from the Whitehaven News that Copeland Council featured in the 2007 "Rotten Boroughs" award from Private Eye.

This was - surprise, surprise - over the glass window panels which Copeland Council removed from bus shelters in Millom and Gosforth when the smoking ban came in so that they would not have to enforce a "No smoking" rule. The panels were put back the following day after the Conservative councillors for the wards concerned went ballistic.

This was yet another ridiculous undemocratic decision taken by Council Officers, it is they that are rotten to the core not the Borough.

It is time the Officers were held to account for their actions, and inactions.

I'm not going to try to defend the indefensible.

We gave the majority group hell over this at the following full council meeting. If they have any sense - not admittedly something which can be proven to be the case - they in turn will have given the same flak to the people responsible.
